Make your own meringue: delicate meringue without regrets
Delicate meringues that crunch at first bite and then melt in your mouth, yet are low in calories? With this simple 3-ingredient recipe, you can create the perfect meringue puffs that you can enjoy guilt-free.
The classic meringue recipe with sugar is a true classic, but did you know you can conjure up equally delicious and fluffy meringues without sugar? The trick: Instead of refined sugar, use our low-calorie sugar substitute Xucker Like Sugar!
Making your own meringue is really easy. All you need is egg whites, a pinch of salt, and Xucker Like Sugar – and nothing stands in the way of your enjoyment. Whether as a sweet snack between meals or as a decorative topping for desserts and cakes – low-calorie meringues are always a good choice!
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 90°C (top/bottom heat). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Cleanly separate the egg whites from the yolks (there should be no yolk in the egg whites).
3. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt in a clean, grease-free bowl with a hand mixer until frothy.
4. Gradually add the Xucker Like Sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form when the hand mixer is pulled upwards.
5. Transfer the meringue mixture to a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle and pipe small dots of meringue onto the parchment paper.
6. Let the meringue dry in the oven for 3 hours. Very important: wedge a wooden spoon in the oven door to allow the hot air to escape.
7. The meringues are ready when they can be easily separated from the parchment paper and no sticky residue remains.
8. Store the meringues in an airtight container and place them in the freezer overnight.
9. Remove from the freezer before eating and decorate the cake.
